Rosie Riveters, in its mission to serve all girls, is committed to reaching high-need populations, which we define as households having annual incomes less than $45,000, the standard for children to qualify for the federal government’s Free and Reduced Meals program (FARMs). As an organization, we have developed a community-focused approach to programming that enables us to provide for diverse populations of girls where it is viable and realistic for them to participate.
Many children lack the means (transport, parental availability, etc.) to attend weekend programming outside of their immediate community, which led us to develop a partnership with Fairfax County’s Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) youth programs. Since 2017 we have brought Rosie Riveters directly to students enrolled in NCS programs, providing fourteen summer programs and two academic-year offerings that, cumulatively, yielded 221 unique opportunities for children to engage in STEM.
